Parts work psychotherapy is a non-pathologizing and transformative therapeutic approach that helps individuals safely explore and heal the psychological wounds that persist in their lives. By using therapeutic systems that address the different “parts” or aspects of one’s personality, and that provide individuals with felt connection to their psychological center, their “Self”, we are better able to navigate the complexities of the inner world for effective and lasting change.
Parts work operates on the understanding that the mind consists of distinct sub-personalities or “parts,” each holding unique feelings, beliefs, strengths, weaknesses, logical reasoning, attitudes, fears, motivations, and reactions to life experiences. Often in therapy we are working with parts that are protective in nature or have been psychologically wounded in some way. The techniques and methods of various parts work styles allows us to build safety, understanding, and acceptance for all of our parts, no matter how painful, destructive, or dysregulating they may be or have been in the past, providing a path forward towards healing and growth.
One aspect of parts work worthy of making note is that protective psychological mechanisms defending psychological wounds drive much of what we consider to be mental health issues. These defense mechanisms we hold may relax at times, but often will not change their maladaptive patterns until the inner wounds they are protecting have healed. We don’t necessarily dive right into traumatic events, or our relationships with our parents, or any one specific topic. In parts work we learn to listen to our inner world. We build awareness, discernment, and strategies for interacting with all the parts of us, especially the difficult aspects of ourselves as they arise, respecting the boundaries around the inner pain that have been built within. Boundaries are a crucial aspect of parts work, as such we will only go as slow or fast as these parts feel comfortable with, and permission is often asked each step of the way.
Approaches to Parts Work Psychotherapy
-
Internal Family Systems
IFS views the mind as an internal family of parts, each with a role to play. Clients connect with their core Self, their inner center, and the seat of compassion, wisdom, and leadership. This Self is then brought to bear on the task of helping wounded or protective parts heal. This approach empowers individuals to transform inner struggles into a sense of agency, balance, and clarity...among many other positive things. -
Ego State Therapy
Ego state therapy identifies specific "states" shaped by past experiences, often holding emotional memories and particular skills. By communicating with and integrating these states, clients resolve conflicts and trauma while building a greater sense of their inner strength, developing emotional resilience and fostering self-understanding. -
Depth Psychology
This approach, though not formally parts work, is in essence a practice which seeks to explore the unconscious mind and the parts of us that operate below our conscious awareness. By unearthing buried emotions, memories, and psychological patterns, these things can then be processed, transformed, and integrated, leading to lasting positive change and psychological well-being.
Who Can Benefit?
Parts work therapy can be effective for a range of psychological and mental health issues, including:
Trauma, PTSD, and C-PTSD
Childhood trauma or neglect
Recovery from emotional abuse

Amplitude neurofeedback, also known as magnitude neurofeedback, is a non-invasive brain training method designed to promote healthier brain function. This technique measures the strength, or amplitude, of specific brainwave frequencies—such as delta, theta, alpha, beta, or gamma—and uses real-time feedback to help the brain learn to optimize its activity.
By targeting dysregulated brainwave patterns, amplitude neurofeedback can effectively address a range of challenges:
-
Psychological Health Issues: Conditions like anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, and overwhelming emotional cycles in general often stem from imbalanced brainwave activity. Neurofeedback helps restore equilibrium, improving emotional stability and mental clarity.
-
Cognitive Dysfunction: Problems with memory, focus, or executive functioning can be traced to inefficient brainwave patterns. Training with neurofeedback enhances cognitive performance by strengthening neural efficiency.
-
Brain Injury Recovery: After a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or concussion, brainwave activity can become disrupted. Amplitude neurofeedback supports recovery by encouraging the brain to reorganize and repair itself.
Through personalized training sessions, individuals gain better self-regulation, emotional resilience, and cognitive capacity. Amplitude neurofeedback offers a science-backed approach to restoring balance and enhancing overall brain health.
To look at our neurofeedback assessment, which aims to show you where your nervous system tends towards on the arousal spectrum, press the button below.
The arousal regulation model is a foundational concept in neurofeedback training, emphasizing the importance of maintaining an optimal level of brain arousal for mental and cognitive health. According to this model, many psychological and neurological issues arise when the brain’s arousal state is either too high (overarousal) or too low (underarousal).
With neurofeedback, we help the brain learn to self-regulate its arousal levels. Using real-time feedback on brainwave activity, individuals are guided to achieve a balanced state of activation and cognitive flexibility, which promotes reduction of symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and ADHD (among other things), as well as fostering improved cognitive functioning, enhancing focus, memory, and problem-solving abilities by aligning arousal levels with optimal cognitive performance.
The arousal regulation model of neurofeedback training is used not only addresses symptoms but also empowers the brain to develop long-lasting flexibility and self-regulation. This approach is effective for a wide range of conditions and supports overall mental and cognitive health.

LORETA neurofeedback (Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography) is a cutting-edge brain training method that combines real-time EEG brainwave monitoring with advanced 3D imaging to target and improve brain function. Unlike traditional neurofeedback, LORETA goes beyond surface-level brain activity to identify and train deep brain regions and networks responsible for psychological and cognitive dysfunction that are difficult to reach with standard cortical training.
How it Works:
-
A comfortable EEG cap records brain activity across 19 channels in real-time.
-
Advanced LORETA imaging pinpoints areas of the brain that are over-active, under-active, or out of sync.
-
You receive visual and auditory feedback that guides your brain towards healthier patterns, improving self-regulation and function over time.
Who Can Benefit?
LORETA neurofeedback is highly effective for individuals struggling with:
-
Psychological Health Issues: Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, OCD, and emotional dysregulation
-
Cognitive Dysfunction: Brain fog, focus and attention issues, memory problems, and ADHD
